The 2nd battery died just out of warranty and now the first replacement battery has died. I bought an impact driver set 2 1/2 years ago from Amazon. I can forgive a single unit that is defective with a 1 year warranty but these are so bad Makita deserves a class action lawsuit. These batteries are clearly defective and Makita must know it. I like the tool for the moderate sporadic use I put it to, but the first battery died after 4 months. I had to drive 60 miles to factory service center to get a warranty replacement because the local service center wouldn't honor the warranty because Makita does not compensate them for doing so.
Makita needs to get their act together and fix this. I came here to purchase another battery, but tt looks like that is a common problem after reading this. This is really disappointing. I picked up the awesome Makita drill with two batteries. After 2 months, one battery is completed dead and can't be charged.
One battery stopped charging after a few months. While I was there, the guy said they had MANY returns of this particular battery.
I think Makita botched the job of designing this 'home use' battery. Well, now my 'replaced' one AND the one that had been working are BOTH not charging.
I agree with a previous reviewer who stated that the Makita Drill is great but the batteries are not. I took the broken battery to my local Makita tool center (they replaced it under warranty).
Frankly, I am very disappointed that they (apparently) still haven't fixed the problem. I also purchased a Drill (with two batteries) around two years ago.
The other was OK for around a year.
I was going to return under warranty but never got around to it until the warranty expired. Very light usage. I want to add to the growing segment on the bad battery Makita puts out. Now my second has a charge but I get an error when I put it in the charger. Seriously MAKITA are you listening. Truly a state of the art drill which I love but I am very disappointed in the battery. One battery did not last a month.
The new one works fine, but what kind of battery just falls of a cliff. After 2 years this battery bit the dust. Seriously, Makita, fix your firmware. A SMART battery. No gradual decline, the charger just wouldn't charge it. So, I had to buy a new one.
